The Project was established in 1992 and works in close partnership with Liverpool Social Services youth justice section. We work with 11 - 17 year olds involved in, or at risk of involvement in motor crime. Non offenders are taught basic motor vehicle maintenance and normally attend voluntarily. Sessions are normally delivered to small groups. Identified motor vehicle offenders must attend the projects offence focused Road Safety Programme. Attendance is normally compulsory and forms part of the community based sentence imposed by the courts e.g. a supervision order. The work is carried out on a 1:1 over 12 sessions. Liverpool Social Services own evaluation of the project has found that over 70% of young people completing the road safety programme have not re-offended with motor vehicles within a two year period.
